L.L.Bean is one of the most enduring Americana brands in existence, and its classic, rugged New England style is prized worldwide.
It makes sense then that Japan, one of the cultures most deeply obsessed with traditional Americana, would develop its own offshoot of the iconic brand.

Debuting in 2023, L.L.Bean Japan Edition is a collection developed by a specialized Japanese design team to suit the country’s climate and modern trends, transforming classic Bean silhouettes into a seamless blend of American heritage and Tokyo-influenced updates.
The recently released Beans Denim Field Coat continues this evolution, reworking a traditional piece of New England outerwear into a contemporary street-ready staple.
Retro refresh
Part of the Japan Edition Spring/Summer 2026 collection, the Denim Field Coat blends archival influences with modern materials, resulting in a jacket that feels both fresh and timeless.
Its boxy, oversized fit and technical fabrics offer a sturdy yet sophisticated take on a classic.

Rather than the typical nylon of past Beans coats, the new denim take is built with a blend of indigo-dyed cotton and polyester, which reads classic chore coat on the surface but has a little more stretch and durability built in.

The thread itself is not uniform — its complex shape gives the jacket a tactile, textured feel that deviates from standard denim.
The blend also means the jacket is lighter than the average denim, more wrinkle-resistant and quick-drying. The lining is 100 percent polyester.

Thoughtful details include the 100 percent cotton corduroy collar and cuffs, snap button closures, a zippered left chest pocket and two pockets on either side of the jacket (featuring a smaller pocket nesting within the larger open pocket).
