Prediction: Six more weeks of Winter Fashion

Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter on Feb. 2, so let’s talk about outfit inspiration to stay stylish and warm in the coming weeks. Whether you are braving the snow slush in your cute shoes or wearing a big puffer coat that totally hides your adorable outfit underneath, you can’t let the winter weather get to you.

The only thing that I want to do in 30-degree weather is stay home in a matching pajama set, but instead I have to go to class. This is where matching sweat sets come into play.

A matching set makes getting ready in the morning easy, and you still look put together while feeling like you are back in your bed wearing your PJs. My favorite matching set is the Aritzia “Cozy Sweatfleece” joggers and hoodie.

Every winter calls for a puffer coat, but don’t limit yourself to a boring neutral colored coat that everyone else has. Make a statement. Fur coats, quilted jackets and patterned coats can keep you warm while still looking chic.

Zara has a classic faux fur coat, the “Faux Fur Short Coat,” that is sure to keep you warm and cozy. For a patterned coat, check out Hollister; they have a lot of fun ones. The crimson-and-white ones even have a fun heart detail on the back.

For a quilted jacket, the “Dreamscape Quilted Jacket” from Coco McCall is adorable. Its floral pattern is perfect for the end of winter, so you can wear it for upcoming chilly spring days.

If you’re going to make a statement with your coat, you might as well make a statement with your shoes too, and fun statement sneakers are so in right now. Metallic textures and unexpected color combinations can transform any basic outfit.

Steve Madden sells a great pair of metallic gold shoes for only $75. Gola sells a variety of sneakers that have interesting color combinations. I love the lilac and blue color combination.

For the transition from winter to spring, the sneaker mules from Back 70 are so fun and perfect for the season. They’re like a mix of a springtime slide and a winter sneaker, and are ideal to slip on when you are late to class.

My favorite way to add interest to outfits in the winter is by layering. Slipping a white top under a sweater so it peeks out around the collar is a great example that can give you both an extra layer of warmth and a stylish touch.

Another example is layering a button-down under a sweater — this can be especially cute in a professional setting. You can also repurpose your spring and summer dresses by layering a sweater over them, perfect for the end of winter transition into spring.

For this last bit of winter, a unique piece that is incredibly chic is a poncho. And no, I don’t mean a see-through, plastic rain poncho. I mean an elevated knit poncho, perfect for a dinner or a night out. Anthropologie has the cutest one called the “Knit Asymmetric Poncho.”

One of my least favorite things about winter is when you are wearing a puffy coat and your super adorable shoulder bag keeps falling off your arm. This is why winter is a perfect time to invest in a good short strap hand-held purse or a clutch.

The “Hollace Tote” from Anthropologie catches my eye every time I walk into the store, and is the perfect size hand-held purse. For a clutch, the “Amalia Italian Leather Clutch” from Mark and Graham is perfectly chic, elegant and will spare you the dreaded shoulder bag slip.

Six more weeks of winter call for six more weeks of chic winter outfits. From patterned coats to ponchos, winter fashion isn’t slowing down quite yet. For more inspiration, check out my Pinterest board!
