11 of the best wedding guest dresses for women over 40 according to a fashion expert
Finding the perfect fall wedding guest dress can feel like a challenge at any age. For women in their 40s, 50s and beyond, the search can feel even trickier, especially with so many trends leaning toward styles that don’t always feel wearable.
To help narrow things down, we turned to Cathy M. of CathyOver50, a YouTuber who shares fashion, beauty and lifestyle tips for women over the age of 50.
“Find out what your body shape is,” advises Cathy when choosing a wedding outfit for women. “I think an A-line dress or a fit-and-flare dress can be very flattering on most,” she adds.
“Anytime you can dress in a monochrome-type outfit — where it’s all one colour or one colour family — that’s also very flattering.”
However, she says there’s no one rule for simple wedding guest dresses. “It’s more about just highlighting your best features,” she explains.
“I really don’t think that just because we’re over 50, we have to roll over and wear a potato sack,” she says.
“I always tell my viewers that’s the most important thing: that if you can look in the mirror and say, ‘Wow, I really look good, I’m proud of myself,’ that’s the main thing.”
With these tips in mind, we asked Cathy for her top picks for best wedding guest dresses for fall 2025 that are elegant, flattering and age-appropriate, without sacrificing on style.
